Any body of water of sufficient size can be expected to occasionally toss up strange detritus onto its shores, the remnants and wreckage of everything that has passed through it, the things it no longer needs or sustains. The ocean has its driftwood and fishing nets and whale falls, the lake its algae muck and boat hulls and funerary alewife drifts. Remember: the human body is some sixty-five percent water, the heart has its own tides, and you too may discard the messy leavings of those whose lives passed through yours.
