Lewisia, even with its many charms, could not soothe every ache or heal every heart. Some ran away to sister cities, thinking they perhaps needed a desert or a prairie instead of a lake, or they looked for some corner of the outside world that had an empty place just right to fit their personal strangeness in amid the mundane. Others stayed and sat quietly with the hurt, knowing that at least, in this place, there were those who would sit with them.
