The day after Halloween, the shop quietly converted itself back to its normal looks and purposes for the rest of the year. The swaths of artificial cobweb got bundled away in sticky armfuls, the light-up ghosts gave their last flutters, and the prop weapons retreated to plastic heaps in the back of the storage rooms. The masks stayed out, their empty eyes seeming to follow shoppers around, but that wasn’t anything unusual.
