Today's Keyboard Smash
I'm going to buy a new tea kettle, as ours is getting rather worse for wear. I will be getting something very basic and relatively cheap. However. H O W E V E R! I would like to introduce to you the spectacular design of the Alessi 9093 Kettle.
It's like someone stuck a vintage hood ornament on the Apollo command module. Absolutely wild.
And the thing is, I am Not A Fan (TM) of this design. I don't think it's good by any reasonable standard, and it's certainly not good in my personal aesthetic. But god, it's so wonderfully weird, and my personal aesthetic has a LOT of room for weirdness exceptions. I would be tempted to get it. Except they want nearly $200 for that retrofuturism fever dream and that is just--what even.
I don't understand design, and I don't understand marketing. I'm not sure, at this point, I even understand tea anymore.
