Today's Keyboard Smash
Last week, a coworker informed me that the Chinese buffet place in town had reopened. Being a buffet, it closed at the very first lockdown here and has remained so this whole time. Honestly, we both thought it had gone out of business entirely--other self-serve restaurants have. There has been a small sign on the window, visible but not readable from the street, but I hadn't been able to bring myself to get close enough to see what it said. I assumed it was a farewell notice, and I didn't want to know. Maybe if I never looked, it wouldn't be true.
Well, turns out sticking my head in the sand worked out well for once. It really is open again. Coworker reports that it's now a point and be served structure, akin to a certain big-name Chinese takeout chain. This pleases me, insofar as my discomfort with it reopening is entirely based on the known truth of the universe that customers are disgusting. I wasn't interested in food potentially touched by a bunch of randos.
That being said, it makes me a bit sad. I like to arrange things just so in my little take-out box when I go there. I don't like certain things touching. I get just very small bits of certain things. I'm particular. I don't think "particular" is going to be the watchword under these new circumstances.
Still, I'm very glad they didn't go out of business. And maybe eventually, it'll be safe for them to go back to how it was before. I'm still debating if I want to go get something this week. After work on Thursday, I could head in and pick up something tasty, even just to see what things are like for myself. And to fling money at my favorite trashy restaurant in celebration of their continued existence.
