Today's Keyboard Smash

I had a dream that consisted of a "Steve rescues Bucky from Hyrda" fic, which was also an Avengers/Pokémon crossover. Apparently, all the eeveelutions are Hydra experiments and now emotionally bonded with the Winter Soldier. Um. Okay, brain. Two great tastes that...taste...dubious together. I'm not writing that crossover. It's not happening.

Also, there was a very enjoyable moment when some henchman was talking shit about Steve not being able to catch him because it's not like you can shoot around corners. Cue Hawkeye and an Acme-esque tracking arrow that does, indeed, follow people around corners. Steve was extremely smug while bundling the thus-incapacitated henchman into a carpet. (I don't know if this was going to end with a mob-style body dump, but hey, that's sure a thing.)

This episode of Dream Talk brought to you once more by updates on my workplace's covid protocols as shit gets bad again and my resulting need for some therapeutic head-in-sand time.

Today's Keyboard Smash

Pokemon is 25 years old! That's a real wild concept for me! I've been playing continuously for 22 of those years!

I don't actually feel old when I think about that. My brain just kind of blithely laughs and thinks, oh, don't be silly, that can't be true. I am but a small child playing on my Gameboy Color in the shade, hoarding batteries and trying to decide who to use this TM05 Mega Kick on. I will always be a kid and it will always be summer.

I'm so excited for the upcoming remake of Pokemon Snap. I played the original N64 version obsessively back in the day. Over the years, I've moved away from most of the secondary Pokemon games--Ranger, Mystery Dungeon, etc--and just stuck with the mainline games and remakes thereof. But Snap? Oh, heck yeah.

I've been really happy to see meta and memes and art for Pokemon on tumblr. It seems that it's still a home for a lot of us who grew up with it. In particular, I liked this one that talks about how Pokemon is a world that would be very nice to settle down in for a quiet life as an NPC.

Also, enjoy this breakdown on the translation and localization involved in one of the most beloved and random lines in the series: comfy and easy to wear!

Done This Week

Yeah, see, even the time off is a lot less fun when I'm so aware of weird inconveniences and routine disruptions waiting just around the bend for me. I've been slowly coming down off the agitation all that caused. I'm definitely more anxious and keyed up than I would have been after a normal week of work, to say nothing of after (what should have been) just two days. Still, I got another big project finished this week, and that's pretty cool.

Lewisia: 3 new pieces written, and I'm getting better about getting these written sometime earlier than 8pm Saturday night

Gratitude journaling: 35 new entries

Tumblr queue: 35 posts added

Day job: 14 hours, which, uhhh, was more weird than pleasant, I have to say

Crafting: assembled all Pokemon card frames and hung them--pictures under the cut below

Gardening: dug holes for new tree and the ones meant to go around it

Other: jury duty, the weirdest experience of the year thus far

Today's Keyboard Smash

Hnnnngggg...

They dropped a trailer for the new Pokémon Snap reboot. My youth! It calls to me!

There is apparently some kind of bioluminescent phenomenon you're investigating whilst taking pictures? Absolutely everything should glow in the dark! They somehow found a way to make me want a Snap reboot even more, which is impressive considering the stratospheric levels of desire I already felt for this concept.

I played a LOT of Snap as a teen. I even went to Blockbuster to use the sticker printing kiosks they had back, in the Dark Ages when both Blockbuster and printing kiosks were things. The smallest sound effect from that game can, if played in my presence, instantly revert me to fourteen with sore thumbs and a stiff neck from the intense efforts to capture balloon!Pikachu on film.

Meanwhile, I've been debating if I want to buy Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I've never played a Zelda game, though I've watched playthroughs of many of them, including BotW. It seems like something I would probably enjoy, in any case. But Switch games are so bleeding expensive, I'm, uh, a bit reluctant to buy anything that I don't already know is going to be a total hit with me. But I have to say, the strongest evidence yet in favor of BotW is this little fan animation Youtube decided I needed to see:

Koroks appear to be straight out of the kodama playbook of tiny, misshapen humanoid forest spirits of an adorable nature, which is--and I cannot emphasize this enough--absolutely everything I need in life. You get to collect them all up? This is a thing? They all have different little leaf faces? Yes, please, I will take eight million. I want to draw them. I want to make little dolls of them. I am prepared to lay down a truly stupid amount of money for the sake of these little knoblins.

Fandom Snowflake 2020 - Challenge #8

Challenge #8: Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

Well, three recs just isn't going to happen, but one is better than none.

I encountered Lisosa's Pokemon fanart on tumblr whilst awaiting the arrival of my copies of Sword and Shield. They did a series of water Pokemon interpreted as mermaids, and there are a bunch of other Pokemon-as-human designs. (These are apparently called gijinka.) I just find their stuff really charming. They have little blurbs about how the characters are connected to one another, too.

Just look at the pretty!
