This Labor Day, we turn our attention to the oft-overlooked workers who keep our worlds ticking along in whatever passes for comfort and consistency in such times. A whole team of workers, most of them possums, ensure every commuter route has at least one unexpected flower along it, tucked away in a cement crack or amid the tanbark and gravel of roadway medians, while a solitary entity has taken it upon themself to shape one cloud a day into an amusing or inspiring shape. Every day, all around us, invisible work makes our lives easier or happier or simply less tedious, and our gratitude, be we miserly or magnanimous, may be the only wage for it.
