“You know me better than I know myself,” he said after the first lovely sip from the mug--honeyed tea, though he had tried to insist he wanted black coffee. From the hall closet, he heard thumping and scraping and the distinctive sound of cardboard box flaps being opened and closed repeatedly. The older person--his mother’s sibling, apparently--heaved a stack of photo albums and packed-away mementos up onto the table and said, “Amnesia spells will do that to a person, but we’ll set you right.”
