By the time he decided maybe death was not the only remaining solution to his problems, the time to correct his car's course away from the embankment had passed. Fortunately, his car was feeling rather more creative regarding problem-solving and knew how to find or make a shortcut when it needed to. The landing took out a couple of blameless shrubs that had overgrown the edges of the portal, but car and human both arrived alive and only slightly dinged on the unfamiliar lake shore.
