Her affairs in the spirit realm often required her to leave her body for days or even weeks at a time, which necessarily meant hiring someone to watch over her body and home during her astral absences. It took a few tries, and not a small amount of unpleasantness, to find someone she could trust, but it was the bread that cemented the decision to keep number four. She awoke that first time, famished and fuzzy-headed, to a fresh loaf of bread laid out at her bedside, several slices already cut for convenience, water, and a note welcoming her back to the corporeal world.
