When the prophecy said she would be the lap dog of the God-Empress foretold to rule the realm beyond the pantry door, she threw herself into a childhood of training, thinking strength and cunning would keep her free. By the time the fateful day came when she was captured by that enemy, she was a teenager who had systematically denied herself even the smallest indulgences of youth in favor of crafting a hardened warrior. So it was with surprising ease that the God-Empress overthrew her resistance with soft blankets and kind words and sweet treats, revealing a prophecy less about the warrior's will and more about the ruler's desire for someone to spoil and love.
