The filmmaker had gone deaf as a child, shaping the way she took in the world, and the camera seemed a natural extension of her most important sense. She never knew, when she sent the finished footage off to the transcription and subtitling service, what sounds she had unknowingly captured in the process. She wondered who the narrator was, how they had gotten their voice into her footage every time without her seeing them, and what story they would tell with her in their invisible collaboration.
