For every dozen feral books huddled into fluttering clumps like wintering Monarchs, there was one that flitted away alone. Drawn by sweetness on the air, they alighted in tote bags and car seats. They could not help being attracted to people whose minds bloomed with nectar-rich imagination, any more than those people could resist taking the strays into their homes.
