The river fed the falls then tumbled into the lake and a handful of underground aquifers, a long, sometimes lonely trip from her mountain source. She did not mind terribly that her broader, more stable sister gave name to the whole area, while the river was only an afterthought. It was enough to flood and overrun her banks once or twice each rainy season and remind everyone of her own power with such outbursts.
