Lake Lewisia #343
Jan. 9th, 2019 05:17 pmThe downed power line wouldn’t have been a problem–she hadn’t been so short-sighted as to forget a battery backup–if only the repairs hadn’t been delayed on account of the flooding from the same storm and the outage hadn’t been extended to several days. As the stasis field failed amid beeping alarms, she watched her heart begin to beat again after years frozen in time, childlike and safe and still. In the absence of electricity, she had no choice but to return it to her chest for unsafe keeping, the ache of renewed emotion like the pins and needles of a limb that has fallen asleep.
