Searching might have been difficult in winter, but the lake did not freeze things into impossibility, so they found her at the bottom just a month after the flood. She swam up to meet the lights and probes hung off the sides of their boats. She told them, in a voice that burst out of bubbles when they reached the surface, how she had been carried along by floodwaters until she learned to ride them and now the comparatively clear and sedate lake currents seemed a restful place to live.
