Lake Lewisia #547
Jun. 26th, 2020 05:13 pmGiven the choice between letting the trucker drive their bus just up the road to his farm, limping along on the grace of his deft touch with a wrench and a jug of water, or continuing to wait for a towing company capable of moving a bus all the way back to the last city they passed, it seemed obvious which suited them best. Minnie and Casey followed behind in his truck, and in the bus Shannon leaned up from the seat just behind the driver’s to watch every gauge and dial as the trucker coaxed the huffing, lurching bus into the cavernous shade of a tumbledown barn. The whole troupe spilled out then, whooping and hollering and spinning in the loose straw underfoot from the joy of an adventure, and if the trucker noticed the ambiguous bodies or the whirlwinds of dust that kicked up naturally around some of them, he didn’t seem inclined to question either.
