I don't know if this is just my contrary nature or if other people feel this way. But the local evening news is talking about how our county could move up into the "less restrictive" red tier as soon as this week. And my immediate response is visceral fear and disgust. Because all I hear is, "things aren't going as badly as they could be, so we're going to give people a new excuse to behave badly!"

Like, people already barely manage to comply with the recommendations and the bare minimum restrictions, to say nothing of actually behaving appropriately for the level of risk. So every time the situation improves a little, authorities lift restrictions and people take it as license to go wild. Then things get bad again, restrictions increase, and people whine and chafe about it.

I know that it's partly just my anxious/trauma response to this event, that I cannot bear the idea of things going back to "normal," whatever that means. But also--are we seriously anywhere close to being safe enough to loosen up anyway???
