First round of wildflower seeds is down! I repeat, first seeds of the year are ON THE GROUND! *\o/* I only did a small portion of the total I have for the year, because I remain convinced that we're going to get hit by a late frost that will kill whatever I put out unprotected. Anyway! Used my little seed spreader, which worked reasonably well once I got the hang of it. Then I rolled a six-foot jump pole along the ground to efficiently press them into the soil--that's all they want for, apparently. Gave the whole patch a light watering to settle things. Cue my obsessive checking over the following days to see when things start sprouting.

Meanwhile, I've been making slow, meandering progress through Breath of the Wild. I can barely be bothered to pursue the main storyline, because there's just so much wilderness to wander through! I have succeeded in finding some truly absurd and impractical routes to major landmarks. My standard approach to crossing terrain is, "what is the tallest nearby mountain I can climb and then glide from?"

The paraglider is truly one of the most enjoyable mechanisms I've ever been given access to in a game. Jump off ALL the cliffs!

Breath of the Wild is, in some ways, fulfilling the promises that Skyrim tended to fall just a bit short on for me. I approached Skyrim in a lot of the same ways--take strange overland routes and climb up cliffs to look out over the landscape, wander aimlessly just to see what's out there. But the combined climbing and paragliding mechanisms enable those activities, whereas Skyrim...

Look, I fell off a lot of cliffs in Skyrim, is what I'm saying.

Also, the search for Koroks actively rewards this sort of exploration. I've climbed to the absolute peak of several mountains only to discover one carefully placed, liftable rock or an otherwise unseen pinwheel that grants me another Korok friend. (It's similar to how Pokemon games always hide invisible items on certain rocks and other landscape elements. There's a logic to it that makes it very pleasing when you can immediately spot where the hidden item will be on the map.) It's incredibly satisfying to play a game that not only doesn't glitch out if I try to climb straight up a sheer cliff but will give me a little prize for indulging my weird impulses. BotW has ended up being a game perfectly calculated to suit my preferred playing style.

I really, really cannot emphasize enough how much I love climbing up mountains and yeeting my elf-eared little self straight off them. I just want to glide everywhere forever.
