Lake Lewisia #702
Jul. 21st, 2021 10:39 amUnlike most other plant shows, where the sales area took up more room than the show itself and was a constant clatter of money changing hands and leaves rustling and soil top dressing spilling onto tables, the Ambulatory Plant Show expressly forbid the sale of any of specimens of its subject for ethical reasons. Instead, several adoption agencies had booths with ambassador plants, who had the slow temperaments and soft foliage to charm even those resistant to the idea of taking on a plant that could wander the yard on its own. Of course, the sharp-eyed might still see plain business cards and slips of paper with phone numbers passing from hand to hand discreetly, but every companion creature industry had its disreputable breeders or, as the case may be, unscrupulous propagators.
