Lake Lewisia #846
Jul. 20th, 2022 03:39 pmSince the town had so long been under the protection of the Women in Black Hats, themselves Unnamable, the residents accepted readily enough the idea that some things simply must not be spoken. Beyond the Scottish Play and the Fair Folk, local superstition forbid directly speaking of the building at the end of Lacuna Drive, a piece of music allegedly composed by the lake monster, and a type of cookie studded with the leaves of a bush that grew abundantly out on the Hawberry Flats, among other phenomena. Every ten years or so, a new crop of young people reinvented or rediscovered the sidelong terms used to reference these things, because the only correct response to the unspeakable was to talk about it often and enthusiastically.
