Lake Lewisia #847
Jul. 22nd, 2022 06:26 pmThe charity auction often brought out some of the older, more reclusive members of the Society for Retired Knights and Swordspeople, and so this was by no means the first time that old enemies met for the first time not on the battlefield but at the buffet line. The introductory remarks sought to cut as deep as any blade--"I see you're still carting that blunt old thing around"--"The haunted blade is my date, thank you, and I see you can still get helmet hair even when you haven't seen the inside of a suit of armor in a century"--but those who had known the old fighters in their heydays only listened in amusement. By the time dessert was wheeled out and the silent auction was about to close, the two old enemies had settled into comfortable, if grouchy, reminiscing, past feuds less important than preserved familiarity.
