False Teapot Root

Price: Invitation for seller to one (1) tea party conducted by buyer

A hardy perennial in temperate zones, though the lush vines will die back to the caudex in autumn. The caudex forms a distinctive teapot shape at maturity, complete with spout and handle, and has traditionally been dried and hollowed for use as such. Skin when dried is highly resistant to heat and fire and is watertight. Propagates by runners that root and begin to form the next teapot. Recommended to remove these runners early, as the plant can start to exhibit problematic behavior if allowed to cluster. Warning: if you find mysterious tea parties, wreathed in greenery, set up in your garden and smelling strongly of tea and buttery cakes, the runners have gotten out of control. Professional pruning recommended to subdue the parent plant.
