The skeleton of the building grew up, beam by beam, like legs unfolding on steel joints. By the time it had finished the outer framework, the neighborhood children had taken an interest in the cavernous rooms and latticed sunlight on its floors. The building dreamed of people to live in it, and the children dreamed of a place to make their own, and a partnership began to grow out from those bare bones.
