Jan. 24th, 2024 02:28 pmUntold ages before, it had begun as funeral rites, the giving over of their dead to the mycelial neighbors in the forest. Fungi could, in time, learn to break down almost anything, and they were nearly as adaptable when it came to enmeshing themselves with living partners. Eventually, both parties stopped waiting for death to mediate the introductions, and they became a people of walking rot and wandering roots, networked by hyphae and studded with fruiting bodies.
