The final list of participants was posted on the bulletin board, though by then most had been contacted directly to break the good or bad news. For the observing (and hungering) public, this was cause for much speculation, both about who among the selected might win and why the rejected had fallen short. Those known to be on the judging panel had to deal with a sudden influx of suggestions for challenges, as everyone who knew the participants' skills begged to see them turned to a favorite cuisine or novelty.
