Leslie tried to find a polite way to rephrase their concern, as asking “have you ever actually been outside before” seemed obstructively negative. They took another bite of the chocolate roulade--perfectly serviceable, such as it was--and found themself moving around another mouthful of tiny sugar details that had been buried within the filling. Little did they know, it was a recognizable reproduction of a certain stretch of Lewisian landscape, provided you had seen it from inside the tunnels and not from the dull, cocoa-powdered surface world.
