Done This Week
Sep. 22nd, 2024 01:45 pmMy last week before starting my new position. I don’t think I was a great help to anyone, given the absolutely useless state of my brain. I’m tired and distracted and short-tempered. Made it all that much funnier when I still swooped in to fix (“fix”) a machine that didn’t actually have anything wrong with it, even though three separate people on three teams couldn’t figure it out.
Social Security and my dad’s pension both announced they would be vacuuming the September payments out of mum and dad’s bank account (because if you don’t live to the 30th, you somehow didn’t need money to live the other 29 days of the month). It will eventually get sorted out; mum should be eligible for varying degrees of survivor benefits. In the meantime, though, I’m our only source of income.
Our economic and social system in America is repulsive in its callousness. This is not news to me, but goddamn.
My friend A did something exceedingly kind for me as a gesture of sympathy, which continues to make me feel unbelievably lucky to have met her.
Lewisia: 5 new piece written, so I’m all caught up
Day job: 34.25 hours, with one day off to avoid losing my shit
Reading: Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo (I continue to be hooked on the Grisha verse)
Listening: Searchin.. by DJ Green Lantern (a jazz hip-hop fusion that got a shoutout on KEXP’s In Our Headphones podcast, absolutely stellar, chill and funky)
Other: unloaded hay, met with the crematorium director, booked memorial location
