She had traded favors with spinners to get silk thread made to her specifications, and she had trained with lace makers and crocheters and macrame artists for years to perfect her skills with it. The arcane symbols were her own devising, woven and stitched into a pattern that needed a whole grimoire to record it. For all that the resulting web was gossamer thin and stretched between a branch and an eave of her house, no spider had built it, but she hoped, in time, something spider-like might be summoned to live in it.
