The limitation of his universe-monitoring portal--observation only, no physical transmission--might have discouraged some or sent others back to the drawing board, but he was that alarming mix of lazy and determined that sometimes powered individuals in strange directions. He became an able plagiarist, duplicating reviews and essays from any universe close enough to contain the same media and products as his own. This proved profitable for a time, until one of his transdimensional victims matched his determination and tracked him down to serve a lawsuit.
