When she hit the open highway, she rolled the windows down and let the pine- and asphalt-scented wind tangle her hair. Somewhere north, out where the air tasted like the sea no matter where you went, was another strange town, a sister city. But first, there were long stretches of road where she was the weirdest thing around, peculiarity humming in every vein, her voice and the radio singing magic into the mundane landscape as she drove.
