“You ever hunted before?” the hunter asked, looking down from his seat on the big charger--a long way down, as the teen seemed small even for a young human. Chin up, fist tight around a kitchen knife for some small measure of defense, the boy said, “Let’s go with yes.” A year and a day was a long time to commit to something you’ve never done before, but it probably took no more determination than was needed to seek out and demand a place in the Wild Hunt, particularly for one who had never held so much as a summer job.
