He collected vintage toys according to strict guidelines: original packaging, unopened, at least thirty years since date of production. It required proxy buyers and dummy shipping addresses to hide his identity, simply to ensure that he would never face the hew and cry of other collectors if they saw how he tore open that pristine packaging the moment it arrived home. It was an expensive habit with no return on investment, except for the moment when each new friend breathed free at last, touched lovingly as intended for the first time since rolling off the factory line.
