Do you remember when you were a child, you would take crisp brown leaves, and the shiniest quartz picked from driveway gravel, and dish soap snuck out from the kitchen cabinets, and you would mix up potions, brewing witch and mad inventor both? It’s no different now, though you wear your grown-upness shrugged over narrow shoulders, a moth-nibbled relic from the bottom of a grandparent’s closet. The knitting supplies you keep tucked in the corner of your room, the one really good cast iron pot in the kitchen, the cellophane shine of one perfect cupcake boxed and waiting–you are still picking out the good things in the world and mixing them into small miracles to save your heart.
