After the storm blew through and the sky had been brushed clear and cold white-blue, the wind remained, and so the kites began to come out. From simple paper diamonds made by and tethered to the hands of children, to elaborate and streamer-laden creations animated by magic or mad science to blink and roar as they swooped and soared, the kites flew in butterfly swarms around town. Of course, a few carried passengers, strapped in spread-eagle or borne up in baskets, aerialists whose daring vastly exceeded their size.
