Birthday Adventure

For my birthday, we went to a stretch of beach, previously visited for this same purpose, and I have once again taken a bunch of self-indulgent photos. I am predictable in my interests.

An amiable sort of freak, this bird was a good 18 inches tall at least, and possibly the exact same creature I took photos of the last time I was here. This is a perfectly satisfactory example of a Weird Birb, and I can only express my admiration.

The high tide here forms a large pond/pool/thing, which gets cut off but not entirely drained when the tide goes out. I just really like the way it looks.

I know they're feeding as the waves roll back, but their coloring matches the sea foam so well, it always seems like they're being formed out of it as the waves pass.

Immediately after taking this picture, I discovered I was up to my ankles in seawater, shoes, trousers and all. Because my questionable situational awareness goes right out the window when you put a camera in my hands. Also, when I said I was predictable in my interest, this is exactly what I meant: it looks like moss, it's slimy and weird, and it's best viewed through a macro lens.

One of these things is not like the others. I don't know what kind of con that seagull thought he was pulling, but I wish him luck.
