scrubjayspeaks: hand holding pen over notebook (done this week)
Vacation time! I made it! They tried to kill me off on Friday, but I escaped at last!

It’s off to a rollicking start with a trip with friends to the La Brea Tar Pits. Despite having grown up about an hour away, and despite having been to the LACMA that is attached to it at the hip, I had never been there. So we made a day trip of it.

It was fun. Kind of grisly, obviously. I really liked how they had several examples of bones found that showed remodeling, indicating the animal lived long enough to recover. They even had a bit in a display of dire wolves about how the pack would keep an injured member fed and safe long enough for them to heal. That was a nice palate cleanser from all the Big Dead Animals.

Then they took me to Korean barbecue for the first time. This is something I 100% would not do on my own--too much uncertainty and interacting with staff--and something my family would not have enjoyed. So it was nice having people who would hold my hand through it. Very tasty. I am still full of meat and rice cakes.

Lewisia: just the bonus written

Day job: 44 hours

Cooking: blueberry scones to share with/bribe my travel companions, turned out quite tasty but was very annoying to bring together because it calls for so very little liquid

Listening: the eponymous album from Shadow Academy (my understanding is that each song was inspired by a piece of classic literature, born out of lockdown boredom, and I am desperate to know what each one is)

Other: trip to the La Brea Tar Pits and assorted adventures

For my birthday, we went to a stretch of beach, previously visited for this same purpose, and I have once again taken a bunch of self-indulgent photos. I am predictable in my interests.

For my birthday, my family went to a new section of beach. It had been recommended by the local rockhound group as a good location for finding shinies. It was a very pretty beach with a mix of sand, pebbles, and larger rocks, with lots of driftwood tossed up as well.

I'm still sorting my treasures, so more photos may follow. For now, here are the birds who were busy feeding while we collected.
