Fish darted through shafts of light, following them in a helix down to the depths of the lake. They wove through the hollowed-out eyes of a shipwreck, where the ghosts of saltwater dwellers hid. In the deepest point, something sinuous and ancient blew bubbles and daydreamed of open oceans and giant squids it had known.
