scrubjayspeaks: hand holding pen over notebook (done this week)
Goal of spending less money largely unmet, on account of fabric stores. In other news, screw weather and screw summer, I am tired of sweating.

Lewisia: 3 new pieces written

Gratitude journaling: 35 new entries

Tumblr queue: 35 posts added

Day job: 42 hours of pure frustration

Cooking: guacamole, corn salsa, more guacamole (a theme emerges!), tested new Instant Pot with potatoes of dubious quality

Cleaning: cleaned out floor storage and medicine cabinet in bathroom

Gardening: first Zoom meeting of the brickspace succulent club

Other: fabric store shopping

Well, the power has stayed on so far. Devices charged, water tank full, food cold. Turns out it was a state-ordered rolling outage, because the grid can't keep up with the demand. Because, and I can't emphasize this enough, it's been near 110 if not higher for multiple days. It will continue to be like this for days more, to say nothing of the rest of summer. And I get why this is currently the necessary response. But goddamn, we need to work on our electrical grid so that we can properly power and cool spaces during the summer. Folks are gonna die otherwise. California ain't getting any cooler, kids; time to figure out Plan B.

I didn't dare start my batch of yogurt, which is the only thing I currently care about making with the Instant Pot. It needs eight hours of controlled temperature to incubate, and I just can't be sure the power won't go out again. If it does and it spoils everything, thus wasting the half-gallon of organic milk I bought for this sole and express purpose, I will be forced to yeet several utility governing bodies into the sun in retribution. Better to wait and save myself the trouble.

I slept on my neck wrong last night, so it's all stiff today. This feels like a needlessly excessive unkindness on the part of the universe. Life is hard enough, okay? At least let me move my head freely.

I'm making a list of all the things I'm going to do as soon as the heat breaks. As soon as autumn starts to slip in. Trees to prune. Cuttings to propagate. Furniture to paint. Rooms to clean out. Summer is just a horrible holding pattern before real life resumes, this year more than usual.
