Lake Lewisia #963
May. 17th, 2023 03:34 pmSometimes, a newer house found its architecture did not quite match its sense of self or allow it to contain its people the way it wanted to. If the people were sensitive enough, it might be able to convey to them a desire to remodel, and they would set about building a new wraparound porch or installing Gothic banisters on all the staircases or choosing curtain treatments that hinted at 1950s poisoner housewives. Some houses, though, took matters into their own foundations and figured out how to spontaneously generate gargoyles or tunnel passages into their walls to accommodate dumbwaiters or raise their ceilings into the high-vaulted majesties they always knew they were meant to be.
