When he opened his eyes again, he found himself looking at Marlow, just putting the lid back on a jar neatly labeled as Penny Candy Root. An old-fashioned flavor source, from a time when Lewisians did not have access to modern bottled essences and oils to bolster their baked goods and had to rely on the forest’s generosity, it was also an unexpected bit of common ground between two utterly dissimilar men.
