Oh, bliss. I got to run a machine all by my lonesome today. No training. No weird interruptions. No unexpected rescheduling. No getting shunted off to another department. Just me and a machine all day. Dead easy job, too, so it was as close to a vacation as I can have while actually, you know, very much not on vacation and actively working.
I can't remember if I've said anything about this before, but today was another reminder: I'm apparently a very positive person. I would never have described myself as such before starting this job. But again today, I had someone wander by and ask me how I was liking the job I'm running. This person was surprised that I like it. Because it has small parts??? As though I haven't made something of a specialty running various tiny parts. Then it comes out, oh, this person didn't like running these small parts. Okay? Cool?
Did you seriously just wander by to inquire if I was as miserable as you are about every blessed thing? My gods, just...just cheer up, pal. I swear, so many people at this job are just their own worst enemies. Listening to them, I just think, maybe if you didn't come into things convinced everything sucks all the time? Maybe then you wouldn't mind stuff so much?
I knew I was fundamentally an optimist, but it seems I am just a ray of sunshine compared to large swathes of the population. Weird. Small wonders, y'all. I've been saying for years, but that's all the secret, as far as I can see. Just figure out how to be happy about little things, instead of being miserable about equally little things.
