...I know, I know. *impatience intensifies*
I got voluntold today that I won't, in fact, be having Monday off. I had arranged to take the day so I could knock down my PTO, as I'm nearly at cap and won't be able to accrue any more until I use some up. But it looks like the covid case was from my team--just the added information I didn't really want--and we're going to be short a person that day. And god forbid something not run.
I'm more intensely upset about this than I would have expected. Not because of that day in particular--it was just supposed to be a convenient day that I could use up some hours. I'm pissed, though, because other people are taking two weeks off, and it's not like they're getting called back in to help out. It just seems unfair to take my single day away when other people get many.
It's made worse by the knowledge that I am going to be effectively chained to this machine after the start of the year when this job goes into regular production. They're talking about overtime already, and it hasn't even started yet. So I'm trying to decide if I should just say fuck it and give up on trying to use any PTO before my birthday. I have four days requested off then, which I've had in place for most of the year. Despite that, I have a feeling I'm going to need to pick up ALL the overtime leading up to that just to negotiate my way into getting to take time off.
It's upsetting because I literally never take time off and I certainly don't call out from work. So to have such a small request denied is very distressing. What the fuck is the point of having good attendance and a reputation for reliability if it doesn't earn me even minor allowances in return?
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go eat my emotions in the form of a cheese platter.
