I have a hole in my shirt. This is not a completely irrelevant thing for me to inform the internet of, I promise. I've been sewing more lately, just patching things here and there as needed. Things wear out and tear and get inconveniently-placed stains, and I have at least enough skills to deal with that. (While I have made clothing from scratch before, it wasn't, uh, good? Suitable for cosplay at cons, yes. Suitable for wearing about town, less so.)
Normally, I would just replace some of these clothes. The old ones would get converted to "working around home" status, where bare patches from chub rub or blown seams wouldn't matter. That, however, would require me to buy a replacement. Particularly when it comes to my day job clothes, where I have a self-imposed uniform, I need to get a new version of this thing I clearly use often enough to wear out.
My dudes, I do not want to deal with clothes shopping of all things during this pandemic.
Now, I don't necessarily need to try on the clothes. See above re: self-imposed uniform--I just need to buy more of the exact same size and style from the exact same brand, which can be obtained from my local Warehouse o' Junk big box store (but apparently not by ordering from them online, which, wow). I have absolutely zero desire to do any such thing. While I have done grocery shopping and been in a few establishments since lockdown started, that list is very small.
So. Patching. Doing more of it. Because nothing makes me feel more like a moderately successful humanoid than little tasks like sewing a button back on. And because I've apparently achieved the confident age when I simply do not give a damn if people see me in mended clothing.
