The women took turns through the seasons as the one before the Book of Wanderers, spending days in careful recitation of each name written there. After a lifetime of service, many could recite all the names from memory alone, each return and departure slotted into place around the long-term absences of those who had left Lewisia but would always belong to it. They made of their minds prayer wheels, turning names over in their heads, keeping the memory fresh, ensuring the town would never forget its people no matter how far and how long they strayed.
