Like most of the long-running conventions, the mandate of the Annual Coelacanth Festival had expanded over the years to include other "living fossils" and general paleontological interests, aquatic cryptids, and pet fish hobbyists. As the former mermaid wheeled through the aisles, she admired the marvelous variety of things to look at and buy, even as she faintly mourned the former days of a convention that barely filled one hotel ballroom. She had been there in the beginning, still getting used to living on land and homesick for the water, and that little convention for ancient armored fish had been as safe and welcoming to her as a sea cave.
