The carpentry had been merely a hobby, the engineering even less than that, but that was enough to hang the initial idea on. He consulted with the former mermaid, and with swamp creatures, and even with people who regularly caught amphibian flu, to understand semi-aquatic needs and challenges, and then he started piecing together the first prototypes. Like building up the lung capacity to dive ever deeper, he kept adding onto his base skills until the first swimming desk was ready for installation in office spaces around town.
