Welcome to the April edition of Pandemic Garden Club! Growing good things in strange times!
Anyone is welcome to comment with what they're growing right now, things they would like to try, problems they're encountering, and questions they have. Share resources, answer questions, shout encouragement.
As for myself...
Ohoho! Flower time! (Note: photos taken between the ENDLESS BOUTS OF RAIN. Goodness, that was, like, all the rain we should have gotten through five-plus years of drought, all in one month.)

I felt a bit bad for giving the daffodils a shoutout last month but not showing them. So. Here. I swear I planted a whole bag of pink-tone ones, but I've yet to see anything but the yellow mix.

A followup to last month's tulip: actual flowers! I have a nice mix of white and purple shades across a good half dozen plants.

The windflowers finally came up as well. I considered pulling them up, because their leaves looked unfamiliar and vaguely like some of the weeds we get around here. But I could see they were putting out flower heads, and I was curious, so I let them go. O_o;;; Whoops. Interestingly, the flowers seem to close up at times.

The wildflower garden is a hot mess this year. I didn't add much by way of new seeds--some poppy and lupin seeds around a couple of the shrubs, but that was all. Because of all the rain, the grass (read: foxtails) grew up thick and tall, and it wasn't possible to do anything to stop it. So yes, there are tidytips like these, and poppies and lupin and a few other things, coming up. You just have to wade out into the knee-high tangle of stabby grass to see them...

The weather finally cleared and warmed up long enough to make it worthwhile to uncover the things that get tarps or blankets over them for the winter. And look what I discovered! One of my best mystery aloes, my beloved Flat Fuck plant, has started putting out pups. As I started poking around, I found more than just this one hidden below the main plant's leaves. Apparently, being in the ground suits it very well. I'm not sure how, exactly, they're going to coexist, considering the way this one sprawls out across the ground. But they'll have to sort that out for themselves.

Date: 2023-04-11 03:45 am (UTC)I've got carrots coming in. I should start harvesting them this week or next here and there just to thin out the pot. (It's a big square one with wheels on.)

Date: 2023-04-16 10:20 pm (UTC)Man, my soil is always too heavy to get carrots to do anything worthwhile. Root vegetables in general are tough. Sounds tasty, though!
