The marsupial darkness had always been a loyal and well-trained service animal for her, and sometimes she trusted its judgment more than her own regarding her needs. If it thought she needed to retreat to the safety of its dark pocket dimension, it was probably right, even if she was still insisting she could bear another hour or minute of social interaction. So when the darkness scooped up her girlfriend and deposited them side by side in the cozy void, she accepted its vote of confidence in the relationship over her own anxious questioning.
