"What, um, is all this?" she asked, voice bright but baffled as she looked at the fluffy pine branches and armfuls of loose leaves that had been piled up in the bedroom. He looked at her with those big, scared eyes, his newly washed hair starting to go curly around his shoulders, and offered, "Nest." In what would be one of the many loving compromises of their developing relationship, she convinced him to try out sleeping on a bed with blankets but also allowed him to pile his offerings on top of the duvet, fragrant and feral like him as he curled around her.
